Vastness of This Moment: Intro to Mindfulness Meditation (Hybrid)

  • Hybrid: Online & The Aligned Collective LLC 1441 South Avenue Rochester, NY, 14620 United States (map)

Pausing the momentum of our everyday lives to simply be is a subtle and powerful gesture. At first, it might feel like we are sitting in a gushing waterfall, our thoughts and feelings rushing like crowded traffic on a busy highway. Then, we realize that there is something still and clear WITH the agitation and movement of or minds and emotions. Awareness is there. Because we have the capacity for self-awareness, we have agency. We can move the flashlight of our attention off of the wild movement of our emotions and thoughts. Even if only for a fleeting second, this moment is the jewel where the gift of continuing to practice repeatedly arises.

Over time, the strong magnetic-like attraction of the content of our thoughts or the strength of emotions begins to weaken. The thoughts and emotions remain, moving, fluid, and dynamic. It is the grapsing towards them that softens.

Just this sequence of events is precious and powerful. Not just beginners, even “experienced meditators” go through this dance at the beginning of sessions.

In repeated, gentle returning our attention to an anchor, we begin to notice and see the fullness of our being and all the interdependent dynamics. We train in synchronizing our mind (awakened heart) and body (physical being).

Shamatha-vipassyana, often called mindfulness meditation, is a foundational Buddhist practice designed to assist us in doing just that, synchronizing our mind and body.‍ ‍

When we practice, we don’t do it to become “good meditators.” Join Sarah Farash to hear more about how this practice is really designed to help us when we are NOT meditating.

Learn the technique and try it out for yourself.
