The room is softly lit. The mats are already laid out, each with a folded blanket and a small cup waiting. Somewhere near the front, a candle flickers. You step out of the cold Rochester evening, take off your shoes, and something in your shoulders begins to loosen before the evening has even started.
This is Sacred Cacao & AcuSound. It is a 90-minute journey that weaves ceremonial cacao, acupuncture, and live sound healing into one deep, restorative experience. The next gathering is Sunday, November 15th at 5:00 PM at The Aligned Collective.
If you have never been to a cacao ceremony or a sound bath, or if you are curious about acupuncture but not ready for a one-on-one session, this is a gentle way in. Here is what the evening holds.
The First Sip: Gathering and Cacao
You settle onto your mat. The room gets quiet in the way a room gets quiet when everyone is breathing together. Melody greets the circle and waits until everyone has arrived before beginning. No one is rushed in. No one walks in mid-ritual.
Then the cacao goes on to warm. The scent starts to move through the space: earthy, warm, faintly sweet. The spice-infused honey goes in, then oat milk for a creamy finish. It smells like something being made with care, because it is.
While the cacao warms, the circle stirs in intentions together. This is not a silent, private moment. It is shared. Each person adds their intention to the pot, and the whole room's hopes go into the same batch. By the time the cacao is poured, it holds everyone's intentions, not just your own.
You wrap both hands around the small cup and feel the heat seep into your palms. This is not hot chocolate. Ceremonial cacao is a minimally processed, heart-opening elixir used for generations in Indigenous traditions to support presence, connection, and emotional openness. It is sipped slowly, not gulped.
As the warmth spreads, you sit with what you stirred in. Something to release, something to welcome. You do not have to say it out loud. You do not even need to have the words yet. The intention can be as simple as let me rest.
The Needles: Reclined Acupuncture
By the time the cups are set down, the room has softened. You lie back on your mat, fully clothed, a blanket pulled up to your chest. This is where the sound begins. Not after the needles. Alongside them.
Melody moves quietly through the circle, placing fine, hair-thin needles. You may feel a small tap, a tiny pinch, then a heavy warmth that spreads outward from each point. While she works, Zach begins guiding the room in breath: slow, unhurried, easy to follow. The crystal singing bowls start to ring out, one at a time, and your breathing syncs with them without you really deciding to.
If needles are not your thing, you do not have to receive them. Ear seeds are offered as an alternative, tiny seeds placed on specific points in the ear that provide gentle, continuous pressure. You get the same invitation to rest, without the needles.
Because you are already lying down, already warm, already breathing with the room, the needles tend to land softly. There is no clinical brightness, no clock on the wall to watch. Just the hum of the room and the slow rhythm of your own breath.
The Sound: A Live Sound Bath
Once the last needle or ear seed is in place, the soundscape opens.
This is when the gongs come in. Low and rolling, they move through your chest in a way you feel more than hear. The chimes follow, scattering like light. The crystal bowls continue underneath it all, holding the room in a kind of resonant hush. Zach builds the sound live, layering instruments as the room settles deeper.
It is not background music. It does not ask anything of you.
Somewhere in the middle, you may lose track of where the sound ends and your body begins. The vibrations move alongside the needles, deepening the relaxation, softening the edges. People often describe this part as floating. Some drift off. Some cry quietly, in the good way. Most just lie there, held by the sound, doing nothing at all.
The Return: A Gentle Closing
The sound fades. The needles are removed, one by one, so gently you may barely notice. The room comes back slowly: the candle, the blanket, the faces around you. You sit up when you are ready. There is water. There is no rush. The circle closes, and you step back out into the evening carrying something quieter than you came in with.
What to Bring
Just yourself. All yoga mats, props, and blankets are provided. Wear something soft and comfortable that you can lie down in. If you have a favorite blanket or an eye pillow, bring it. It is not necessary, though. Everything you need will be waiting for you.
Who This Is For
Sacred Cacao & AcuSound is for anyone who needs an evening of deep rest. It is for the acupuncture-curious who would rather start in a group. If needles are not for you, ear seeds are available and you will still get the full experience. It is for anyone who has been meaning to try a sound bath. And it is for anyone who simply wants to lie down, be cared for, and leave feeling lighter.
No experience with cacao, acupuncture, or sound healing is required. You do not need to know how to meditate. You just need to show up and let yourself receive.
